📝 About & Mission

SpaceWeatherTracker.com is an independent astronomy and space weather site built to make live solar and geomagnetic data understandable for everyday skywatchers, not just specialists. The site is supported by advertising, like most free tools on the web — we're upfront about that rather than describing ourselves as something we're not.

🔬 Scientific Methodology

Most figures on this site are pulled directly from real government space weather agencies and computed using standard, published astronomical formulas (solar and lunar position, rise/set times, eclipse geometry) rather than proprietary models. Where a number is a real calculation rather than a raw feed — like a local cloud-cover-based viewing score — that's disclosed on the page itself, not presented as an external measurement.

🛰️ Data Sources

Our real, active data sources are:

  • NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) — the planetary Kp index, GOES X-ray solar flare data, and real-time solar wind measurements from the DSCOVR and ACE spacecraft.
  • NASA DONKI — coronal mass ejection (CME) event tracking.
  • Open-Meteo — global weather and cloud cover data, and worldwide location geocoding.
  • Astronomy-engine (open-source library) — sun, moon, and eclipse position calculations, computed directly rather than fetched from a third party.

We don't currently integrate data from ESA, SANSA, SAAO, or ISRO — if that changes, this page will be updated to reflect it accurately.

🛡️ Editorial Standards & Corrections

When we identify an error — a wrong historical date, an inaccurate figure, or outdated information — we correct it directly in the content as soon as it's found, rather than leaving it live. We don't currently have a dedicated public corrections-submission form; if you spot something that looks wrong, please reach out through the site's standard contact channel.
